Outreach Project
In an effort to combat the negative statistics of crime, teen pregnancy, dropout rates, the effects of illicit and illegal drugs and child neglect would be somewhat unnecessary because we are all acutely aware of the problems and needs of the young people in our community. The Trustees have chosen to mentor and support students at Tuggle/Hill School. It is said that, “Reading is Fundamental”… with this being Black History Month, Trustees will go into the school and read to classes and students will be given a book for their personal enjoyment. In addition, we are asking the St. John A.M.E. congregation to donate much needed school supplies, i.e. duplicating paper, crayons, scissors, loose leaf paper, pens, paper towels and pencils. Schools are also in need of speakers for mentoring groups, volunteers for one on one mentoring, volunteers to read to classes, small groups, and individuals. Mark 11:16 says: “Then He took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.” We can follow Jesus’ example and be a blessing to the children in our community.
Young Adult Bible Study
Bethesda, a young adult bible study for ages 18-40
will be held monthly beginning on Friday February 10th at 8p.m. This bible study will
be held in the home of Alison S. Moore. For more information, please call 205-382-

Married Couples Ministry
Sign up today outside the fellowship hall to participate in
our Annual Valentine Dinner that will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2012. $20 per
couple. Childcare will be provided $5 per couple.
Ash Wednesday
We will begin our yearly observance of Lent on Wednesday, February
22, 2012 at 6:30p.m. with Ash Wednesday Service. On the following Wednesday’s
we will have our Lenten Season worship services with guest ministers. On the
Sunday before Ash Wednesday you can pick up your Lenten Meditations from the
Church office.
Church School
St. John Church School will sponsor a month long of activities in
celebration of Black History Month. During each worship service a moment in Black
History will be given by one of the students. And starting the second Sunday we will
have guests from the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to speak about Richard Allen,
The A.M.E. Church, The Foot Soldiers and Barbara Shores Martin (daughter of Civil
Rights Activist Arthur Shores. All classes will meet in the fellowship hall.
Pan-Hellenic/Black History Celebration Sunday
To wrap up our month
long celebration of Black History we will celebrate with the Pan-Hellenic Council of
St. John in charge of service and will serve a potluck lunch immediately following the
11am worship service on February 26, 2012. Please sign up outside the fellowship hall
today, to bring your favorite Soul Food dish.
