St. John A.M.E. Church Children's & Youth Ministries aims to develop the faith and character of children ages 2 to 19. We provide children and youth with Christian education that will lead them to Jesus and disciple them in their daily walk with Him. The following ministries include programs and activities organized throughout the year to nurture the spirituality of the children/youth, train them for leadership, and help them reach out in service to others in the community.

Debutante Master's Commission
Debutante-Master classes will be held each Sunday during the month of March from (11am—11:45am) as we prepare for our upcoming dedication ceremony. Our focus of study will be— “Life: It’s Not a Game”

The dedication ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 11, 2010 at 1:00pm. During this ceremony Debutante Kimberlee Mays and Master Malcolm LaMotte will dedicate their lives to a higher Christian service. Afterwards a reception will be held in their honor in the fellowship hall.

Children's & Youth Church

We provide Christian Education for children & youth that helps them build a relationship with Jesus. During this time they study the Scriptures. Classes are held for one hour and the program is based on a weekly Bible lesson. Children and Youth are involved in active learning and participate in a variety of activities that meet their learning styles. This provides a great opportunity to study the Bible with the children and youth and help them relate these truths to everyday life.

Children ‘s and Youth Church incorporate all the elements of regular worship such as praise, prayer, studying the Word, drama or skits and arts and crafts that apply the Word to everyday life.

Wednesday Prayer

Children and Youth are involved in a meaningful prayer experience. Which involves a short talk based on scripture to strengthen their belief in and understanding of prayer. It includes songs, prayers, and an activity or craft. This offers them a special opportunity for spiritual growth and fellowship with their peers.

Children’s & Youth Choir

Gives an opportunity for children and youth to experience worship through music by proclaiming God’s glory with a joyful noise. They provide song service every 2nd Sunday and also on special occasions.

Youth Sunday (2nd Sunday's)

Affords Children and Youth an opportunity to use their gifts and talents by participating in the worship service. Children and Youth participate in the worship service, taking on functions such as praying, scripture reading, leading song service and special music with instruments. This provides a great opportunity to train children as leaders in the church.

AME Church Study

Children and Youth are given much needed information about the African Methodist Episcopal Church and St. John AME Church. During these classes they are given an opportunity to explore their spiritual gifts to become active members in the church.

Everyday Leadership Development

Instill in youth how every day there are opportunities for all of us to make a difference in others’ lives – to provide leadership wherever we go or in whatever we do (Just as Christ did). This gives the youth an opportunity to bring out the best in themselves and others with a caring heart and an ability to do more than they may ever have thought possible.

Arts/Crafts and Fellowship Weekend

Children and Youth participate in a fun-packed activity of creative craft making and is essential for building better relationships with families and others in the community. Afterwards they participate in an activity outside of the church (skating, bowling, etc.)

Acolytes

Children under the ages of 13 participate as candle lighters at the beginning and end of each worship service. This provides these young members with another opportunity to participate in the Sunday morning worship service.

Drama/Dance/Drill/Musical Teams

Gives children and youth an opportunity to express themselves through the Arts that are occasionally showcased during 2nd Sunday worship service and special programs. Spiritual lessons are interpreted through drama, dance, drills and musical instruments.
